Whalers score 8 past Ratliff, Jiffy

Portland, Maine -- The Whalers started the summer season on the right foot with a big 8-2 win over Jiffy on Monday night. 

The Whalers struck quick with a goal from newcomer Gavin Simopoulos (1) just :51 into the game. Hayes Sawyer would score his first of the season just under three minutes later to give the Whalers a quick insurance goal in the first. Jiffys' top gun Quintin Farr (1) would split the lead in half with on Jiffy's first shot of the game.

In the second, Jiffy would knot it up at two a piece with a quick goal from Neal Shelley (1). Lucas Hubbard (1) would score under a minute and a half later to give the Whalers their second lead of the game.

Jiffy could not keep up in the third as the Whalers opened the game up and scored five unanswered goals including a pair from Dubois (1,2).

Ben Walz made 17 saves in the win for the Whalers.
