Weekly Recap

Portland, Maine -- The Chickadee Tier III season is only a few games old, but the early tone of the league is already beginning to reveal itself. Through the opening stretch, a handful of teams have made strong first impressions, while others are still searching for rhythm as the standings start to take shape.
At the top, the Space Rangers have wasted no time asserting themselves. They remain the league’s lone team with multiple wins, opening the season 2–0–0 and doing so away from home. The Rangers have paired steady defensive play with timely scoring, putting 11 pucks in the net while allowing just five. It’s early, but they’ve looked comfortable in high‑tempo games and have given themselves a small cushion heading into the next slate of matchups.
Just behind them, Terra Landscaping announced their arrival with authority. A 9–2 win in their lone game of the week not only earned two points, but also left the entire league taking notice. That kind of offensive outburst tends to linger in opponents’ minds, and it sets the stage for what could be a very revealing matchup when they meet the Rangers in early May.
Several other teams opened their seasons with performances that suggest they’ll be factors all year. Portland Paper Products III struck a balance in their debut, flashing offensive depth while keeping mistakes to a minimum. The Red Wings looked equally composed, controlling their opener and limiting chances at the other end. The Maine Beer Co. Bucks also made the most of their first opportunity, earning a road win and showing they can generate offense without sacrificing structure.
The Pizza Villa Pylons experienced a more mixed opening stretch, splitting their first two games. While the record shows middle ground, their offensive output has been encouraging, and they’ve proven they can put pressure on opponents when given space. Cleaning things up defensively will be the next step if they want to climb out of the middle of the pack.
At the lower end of the standings, several teams are still looking for their first win, though not without signs of life. The Frosted Leafs and High & Tight HD have stayed competitive, while Jiffy Car Wash and Portland Fire Hockey Club have endured tougher starts, particularly in their own zone. With the season still in its infancy, there’s plenty of time for early lessons to turn into momentum.

Several individual performances stood out during the opening week.
Derek Barden of the Maine Beer Co. Bucks was electric in his first outing, recording two goals and two assists in a single game to spearhead the Bucks’ road victory.
For the Pizza Villa Pylons, Jonathan Miller provided a consistent offensive spark over two games, scoring three goals and adding two assists as his team split the week.
And for the league‑leading Space Rangers, Eric Profenno made his presence felt with three goals across two games, delivering timely scoring that helped keep the Rangers perfect to start the season.
As the schedule continues to unfold and teams settle into their identities, the coming weeks should bring clearer separation — and likely a few surprises. If opening week is any indication, Chickadee Tier III has plenty of offense, parity, and momentum swings still to come.
