Pylons take no. 1 spot in Power Rankings

by Chad Marescalchi

Portland, Maine -- We have a new no. 1 in this quarters Elite League Power Rankings.

The Pizza Villa Pylons have snuck into November's power ranking with help of their current 6-game win streak, jumping ahead of the Red Wings who has held the number one spot since the rankings began in September.

The Pylons have boosted themselves into a great spot heading into the final weeks of the Fall season, posting 6 game win streak posting 29 goals scored and just 14 goals against with the help of Emerson between the pipes. Lead by Jesse Desper, the Pylons look to cap off their regular season hoping to win all three home games on the schedule.

The Red Wings continue to be a powerhouse in the Elite League, but their recent record 1-2-0 has bumped them from the no. 1 spot in the ranking. But not to worry if you're a fan of the Wings, they are projected to pave their way to the Elite Final Four in December.

The biggest jump in this Ranking was the Maine Beer Co. Bucks, who moved up 3 spots to number four. The Bucks, who had a slow start to the season, have been heating up in the second half. Coming into the ranking on a three-game win streak as well as defeating both the Red Wings and Reynolds has proven a case that the Bucks could be the team to lift the Cup come December. Mike Scott has continued to climb the ranks between the pipes and hopes to continue as we near the end of the season.

The Huskies and Firefighters both climbed up spots with good wins over top teams. Yosaku found themselves down a spot to no. 7, and Jiffy saw the biggest change falling down 5 spots to number nine. Both the Whalers and Reynolds had no change in this Power Ranking.

The Elite League regular season end is just around the corner, with teams with either two or three games left, we take a look at some notable matchups yet to come...

Mon. Nov. 13, 2023, Whalers vs Red Wings, the Whalers are continuing to build following the Championship loss in the Summer and are very familiar with big games. This test against the Red Wings should give us a clearer picture of what the Whalers can do against one of the League's best.

Tue. Nov. 14, 2023, Reynolds vs. Bucks, time will tell if the Bucks can continue to power through their opponents with the help of one of the league's top netminders. This will feel like a playoff matchup as there is grit between these two squads.

Wed, Nov. 22, 2023, Jiffy vs. Firefighters, as it stands now, the Firefighters would visit Jiffy in the 8th vs. 9th Play in Game, with that being said we have a lot of hockey left, but the Firefighters of the Portland Fire Department have been coming together and scratching through games and posting wins. This matchup should have a playoff atmosphere to it.
