Pylons edge Bucks in final minutes

PORTLAND, MAINE -- The Maine Beer Co. Bucks and Pizza Villa Pylons played in their CHL opener last night, and showed great team defense, as well as top notch goaltending.

The Pylons opened the scoring with 5:46 left in the first with a goal from Jon Miller. Three minutes later Miller would tack on an assist on Guites first of the season.

The Bucks struggled to secure offense in the first period but came out in the middle frame with two goals (Walton & McPartlin) and 8 saves from Micheal Scott. The Pylons would add a late goal in the second to take a 3-2 lead into the final fourteen.

The lead didn't last long for Pizza Villa as Dave Esheverria scored for the Bucks just :42 seconds into the third. Both netminders, Scott and Walz had high quality third period saves to keep this one tied, but Jon Miller broke that tie and would record the GWG with just :38 seconds left. Walz would contribute with a handful of huge saves in the final seconds during the Bucks final offense push with a 6 on 5.

The Bucks will get a short rest as they continue their homestand on Sunday night with a 6pm matinee against the Whalers. The Pylons are back on the ice next Friday when they host Yosaku.
