Ice Dogs make statement with big win
Portland, Maine -- The Ice Dogs powered through the Wharf Rats in their debut game as an expansion team in the Chickadee Hockey League.
The Wharf Rats scored early, with a rebound shot from team captain Chance Everett. The Rats though would not be able to tap in another one for the remainder of the game. The Wharf Rats lead did not last long as Austin Gross would score his first of a four-goal night just minutes after Everett's go-ahead goal. Gross would score his second of the game in the final minutes of the first period.
The Ice Dogs would start the period off quick with a wrist shot goal from Gross (3) to complete the hat trick. The Ice Dogs would string together a powerplay goal as well with a shot from Michael Sukaloski. Jerzy Polak and Austin Gross would add a goal each including a shorthanded goal from Gross.
Though winning by a score of 6-1 the Ice Dogs did not show much of an offensive style of hockey, as they did have trouble with offensive zone pressure as well as defensive zone positioning, Jason Bisbing would keep the pressure to a limit as he would find himself being the beginning of many breakouts plays and much needed whistles.
The Rats on the other hand have the speed and depth to defeat any team this season. The Rats will be on the road next Friday when they visit Jiffy.
