Huskies spoil Whalers comeback

by Chad Marescalchi

PORTLAND, MAINE -- The Whalers would begin their second CHL season on the road against the Huskies, though they had a late third period offensive surge, would fall 5-4.

The Whalers got on the board first with a goal from defenseman Matt Burns. But the lead didn't last long as Chad Marescalchi scored his first of the season, and just minutes later Raechel Allen had her first in the League on the power-play to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead after the first.

Pcolar and McNally both scored their first goals in the Chickadee League to give the Huskies a three-goal cushion after the middle frame.

One of the new additions to the Whalers lineup, Joe Pichette, scored two goals in the final period to help minimize the deficit, but they couldn't get the job done after pulling Harley from the net.

The Huskies are back in action Monday night as they visit the new Portland Firefighters. The Whalers will look to bounce back on Sunday when they continue their road trip against Maine Beer Co.
