Firefighters start season with win

by Chad Marescalchi

Portland, Maine -- Friday, October 13, 2024, the Firefighters recorded their first and only win so far in the Chickadee Hockey League against the Maine Beer Co.Bucks'. Tonight, history repeated itself as the Portland Firefighters secured their first win in nearly six months after defeating the Bucks 7-5.

Rob Mccann opened the scoring for the Local140 on the powerplay just three minutes into the game. Jake Garrison would stay hot following last season and record his first of what we anticipate being many during this summer season. The Bucks and Firefighters would both add one more in the first frame to end the period with Portland's hero's up 3-1.

The lead would soon vanish as Richard Valdmanis would add two goals in the second to complete the hat trick for the Bucks.

Mccann opened the scoring in the third period with a goal just :46 into the final frame. James Hannigan would answer for the Bucks scoring twice in under two minutes, one which was on the powerplay. The Firefighters would complete the game with three unanswered goals and start the summer campaign in the win column.

The Bucks offense did not show up as they normally do tonight rely on the scoring from just two players.
